THE HISTORY OF THE RAILWAY
The railway started life on the Isle
of Sheppey as the Leysdown Coastal Railway in 1985 with Robin as the only
loco and Natalie and Daisy as rolling stock. It ran for 2 years until the
storm of 1987 which severely damaged it and forced its closure . Some of the line
can still be seen today
The line then found a new home at
Norton Ash Garden Centre Nr Faversham as the Norton Ash Miniature Railway
and run a push-pull service round some of the Garden Centre. Two new loco's were added
to the roster at this time. One a semi scale model of a Class 35 Diesel
Hydraulic ''Hymek'', and the other Bertie a freelance design battery
electric loco more rolling stock was also acquired. Unfortunately . After a few years it was
asked to leave. Some of the rolling stock still has N.A.M.R markings
After looking round for some time for a new
home, the railway moved to Brogdale Farm, Brogdale Road Faversham and
become Faversham Miniature Railway in 2000, where we still are today. The
Railway now has 9 locos and a quantity of rolling stock Having started with
a short price of track the first year, the line grow to a Quarter of a mile
into the Orchards of Brogdale. This year we have embarked on a major
track extension programme which will significantly enhance the railway when
completed
In 2005 the Faversham Miniature Railway Society was formed to safeguard the future of Railway.
And Robin, the loco that started it all, is
still with the Railway, but is now privately owned. He is only run on
special occasion
